Hi Egypt - bus travel in Egypt is dirt cheap - little tip though DO NOT sit anywhere near the loo!!

LOL!! Would love to experience the bus travel, but maybe not straight from the airport with luggage etc!

Some taxi drivers will take a chance and leave without joining the convoy and give the police at the borders a backhander.

Oh well, even if he does join the convoy we will have a bit of freedom while we wait instead of being stuck in lobbies.

I booked the hotel direct and asked them to book the transfer for me. They came back with the price

The only problem I have with dealing direct is getting confirmations, etc. I have it now, but it took a raft of emails!! Also, the hotel won't tell me whether I have to pay a reservation fee or not - anytime I email and ask them there is no response. I guess I'm just not used to the Egyptian way

OMG, don't say that! I've no idea what we're going to get The hotel is a small friendly place and they pride themselves on quality, so hopefully they have sorted something decent for us ( a 2008 Merc with aircon, et al...??? ).

Ask your hotel in Luxor to book you a 'Limo' for the drive to Hurghada. By 'Limo' we're not talking 'stretch' here we are talking of one of the modern Daewoos's! (Orange & Blue)Buts its better than an old stinky Peugeot. Should cost 35 GBP.

Hi Scotty - that is a really good return price for Hurghada - well done! We all like a bargain.

I have a taxi booked from Luxor to El Gouna for LE350 - cheaper (just) and faster than the convoy Or are we likely to be forced to join the convoy?

Technically all tourists should travel with the convoy ( I think there are 3 or 4 per day ) We travelled to Luxor last year on our way to El Gouna and had to stay overnight in Luxor as we were told we would arrive too late to make the evening convoy to Safaga. As it happened we were held up getting into Luxor as we had to wait for the convoy to pass ! We made a night of it in Luxor and then got up early to do a balloon trip which made it really worthwhile.

As with all things in Egypt there will be ways to get to El Gouna without using the convoy but man involve some baksheesh.
