I used royal mail and didn't bother with recorded delivery as Royal Mail could not guarantee that they could present me with a receiving signature if I asked for it. Luckily it arrive within a few day and cost under £2 to post.

When it comes to original documents, I can never stress enough the importance of using a reliable courier, such as Fex Ex or DHL. Royal mail CAN be successful, on the other hand it is sometimes not successful. It always baffles me when someone spends tens of thousands on a property, but is unwilling to spend just that little bit extra to protect their legal documents that govern the purchase.

Your absolutely right on that! But my thinking was that there is always another copy of the contract in your possession as you are sent 2 copies.
Worst case senario for me was that the first one would get lost in the post - in which case I would have to photocopy the one I have, sign it again and post it.
That is why I was prepared to take the risk. Had I not have been provided with 2 copies I wouldnt have done so.

Hi Everyone
Just come on here quickly to see if someone can help to clarify this ! I need to take my contract to have it legalized by the egyptian embassy now BUT they are telling me it is the consulate ????!!! Was going to go tomorrow but don't know where I am going now AT ALL ? Consulate or Embassy ??? and if any of you have got the consulates address even better as I have been trying to ring them and NO REPLY !!!! and searched on internet but seems quite confusing to me who is who ???? :dontknow: Thanks x

is this regarding POA
if so, then i beleive you need the Egyptian Embassy to be stamped. You may not need to actually take it in person to the Embassy, but this you are better to do. If you wish to send it to the Embassy, please telephone them first to obtain their instructions.

Hi Mussal thanks for taking the time !!!! - Yes I am going to take it in person as otherwise will take forever ! and was hoping to go tomorrow ( tue ) Yes it is POA and the info you have given me is the same info and instructions from Tarek ( my solicitor ) BUT the Egyptian Embassy says it's NOT THEM I have to go to - it's the consulate !!! whoever and where ever they are ! Their site refers me back to Milton Keynes for legalization ( which I have done ) So don't understand what is going on anymore lol but close to tears with frustration !

Sorry, i got the information from tarek also 'how to make a power of attorney' i still have to get mine done though. i have spoken to a solicito and he advised me he can do all this. he advised me that it will have to go to FCO then the embassy.

OK - ME again :wavey: - I have JUST spoken to a NICE guy at the Egyptian Embassy ! He told me that he has phonecalls like mine virtually every minute ... BECAUSE the Egyptian Consulate is part of the Embassy but they are different buildings and apparently I would have to go to the visa section because they deal with it !!?? He says he knows as he has worked at the Embassy ( South Street ) for 20 years ! mmmhhhh - guess I'll see what happens - the address I have to go to is 2 Lowndes Street ( Knightsbridge ) - if you don't hear from me I am probably lost in London somewhere lol x Take care and hope all is going well with your purchases !!! x:wavey:

Ha Ha - thought your info looked familiar the way you worded it lol ! Well I have taken mine to my notary and then for legalisation to Milton Keynes myself as obviously will be done there and then ! Had the notary done everything it , it would have taken at least 3 weeks and cost probably at least couple of hundred or more he said ! It's the time factor as far as I am concerned so will attempt a trip to London tomorrow probably ! : ) -

i know how you both feel, I didnt know which way to turn Embassy saying one thing my solicitor saying another. So I just thought i,ll just go to Hurghada and get it done. Nearly got the sack from work though as my manager said I could,nt have the week off, so I told her it was either that or a nerves breakdown. So she gave in. Bless her

:wavey: Ha Ha Maggie - that is so funny and soooo true !!! I feel so stressed today you have no idea ! Have been up since early trying to sort a courier out for my contract ! Well it was a nightmare to say the least ! :call: DHL I couldn't even get through - answering machine all the while referring me to this and that number , parcelforce don't take it because it's not heavy enough , another one wouldn't entertain me because I had no account with them , another one wouldn't take it because it is only one "shipment " & before I knew it , it was 16.30 and I decided my stress levels were too high - so I went to the Post office and sent it from there for £7.18 ! They have to sign on receipt and I can check on line when they have ! Should only take 2 - 4 days ! Was a bit pushed time wise to send contract asap as had authorized transfer of money today into Developers account ! ( exchange rate was good !!! ) A few days ago it would have cost me £250 more ! This was me all day :smokin: plus I don't know how many cups of tea and coffee lol ! I know someone commented earlier about people trying to save money on sending contract ! Obviously I want it to arrive safely but I just simply couldn't get a courier to do it ! and I wasted a whole day off trying to find one !!! ( Not good ! ) Anyway it's gone now ( relief ) - will let you know if it arrives ok and if I manage to get my POA stamped by the Egyptian authorities - Should you not hear from me please come looking for me in London somewhere ????????!!!!!!!!!! lol x Love to you all x

No worries I,v alwas wanted to go to London lol. As for your contract i,m sure it will be ok so dont get stressed over it.Its good to hear about your exchange rate I,v gone through RFX so its fixed for the next 6 months just hopeing i,m getting a good rate.

what rate is it fixed at Maggie ??? You MUST check it as can make a difference of hundreds if not more to you Maggie !!! I have an account with Currency Direct ever since 2006 - used them for my apartment in Bulgaria then - and have phoned them every second day recently just keep an eye on rates ! Had rates been better would have paid a bit earlier even ! EGP seems quite volatile up and down by sometimes 30 p over last couple weeks ! Anyway hope you get good rate but check it out !!! Take care until soon : ) no doubt lol x

Maggie DON'T FORGET !!! Because that is NOT a good rate and could cost you quite a bit extra !!! I settled for 8.38 today but the lowest it was over the last 2 weeks was 8.03 - today has been the highest so far ! So I bought it and paid the Developer ! Anyway as you said you can't do anything at the moment but be sure when the time comes you look at it again ! ? ! Anyway have decided to attempt London on Wednesday now so will report back lol x
