Wall Street financier Phil Falcone has recently been in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons. He was forced to pay an $18 million fine and take a five-year ban from the financial industry after coming to an arrangement with the Securities and Exchange Commission. This issue was in relation to allegations that he used company money to fund his extravagant lifestyle although eventually he pleaded guilty to negligence but admitted no wrongdoing. So, what does a $57.4 million Caribbean mansion look like?
La Grande Maison des Etoiles
This spacious St Barts estate is fully gated in an area proving to be extremely popular with Hollywood’s rich and famous. Originally Phil Falcone bought the property for a record $39 million in 2008 although after being accused of using $113 million of his company’s profits to fund his lifestyle, his income from the financial markets was effectively switched off overnight. It will be interesting to see whether he is able to obtain the $57.4 million asking price which would equate to an $18.4 million profit. So, what does his mansion really have to offer?
Plenty of bedrooms!
The property has nine bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and three swimming pools which will give you an idea of the size. The self-contained compound is dominated by the main five bedroom villa together with a two bedroom caretaker cottage. All of the properties in the compound offer stunning ocean views with much of the property situated on a hillside. The main five bedroom property is effectively joined onto the caretaker’s quarters with an array swimming pools adding to the holiday feel.
The properties themselves are both spacious and packed with the latest gadgets and high-end furniture. The large glass doors and glass windows offer some of the most breathtaking views you could dream of looking over the ocean. The walls of the main houses contain volcanic rock which was excavated from the area when the compound was built. Even the five main bedrooms have their own individual designs having been named after an array of influential designers.
Relaxing outside
The swimming pools have been designed in such a way as to take full advantage of their location on the hillside. From a distance it looks as though the pools literally drop away meeting with the light blue sky and the ocean. There are quite literally dozens of patio and outdoor entertaining areas spread right across the compound with a swimming pool on the very border of the property. So, whether you fancy a relaxing time in one of the two main residences or perhaps catching some rays in the patio and outdoor entertainment areas, there are options aplenty.
One of the swimming pools has what at first glance appears to be a glass pyramid which is in fact a skylight for a gym below the pool itself! This is a property which makes exquisite use of the hillside to bring about some of the most breathtaking views you could ever dream of. Whether Phil Falcone will be able to obtain his $57.4 million asking price is another matter but once you step into his compound you are quite literally in a different world.
