Second property renovation

Hi All,

Me and my brother have recently completed our first property renovation, which went very well. We have now secured our second property. We both refurbished the first property ourselves on week nights and weekends, we now want to look at possibly getting a contractor in to do the work and get the job turned around in a couple of months.

Has anyone got any recommendations for finding a good contractor or can suggest one from the South Yorkshire Near to Doncaster.

No I don’t really know anyone in the property investment sector at all really, my brother works as a trade so we’re hoping to get some contacts through him. I was just wondering if anyone on here had any recommendations for finding someone other than word of mouth.

You can try online reviews - probably best to look at some of the trade sites - but they are certainly not fool proof.

What areas do you specialise in? I saw your introductory post about flipping property which sounded quite interesting. Markets outside of London are now a little more liquid after some investors cashed in their London premiums to look elsewhere (North and Midlands in particular).

Local business groups/property investment networking events offer a great way to meet people in the same boat as you. At worst you make some good contacts and learn from those who have been there and done it. At best, you might find someone to help with your future projects - mortgages, renovation, etc

Hi Aaron,

I’d suggest looking through checkatrade or mybuilder for smaller renovation projects. It’s also always worth drawing up a small contract or getting a very detailed quote as this will cover you in the event a tradesperson messes you about.

Getting good trades people can be hard so definitely do your research and check review sites as well!

I have been working in a construction company for an extended period, so I know what I am talking about. You must be a good specialist to start working in house renovation. However, there are not many specialists offering these types of services. So you better keep progressing in this, guys, because you can make serious money from this job.
