Dolf De Roos has some good books out regarding investing basics - good sound theories and put into place around the world. Depends on what you're looking for i.e strategies.

A very good book is the intelligent investor by Ben Graham
Recommended by the best investor known in the world Warren Buffett. Is a good book more towards stocks and shares in USA but is worth a read. Buy off Amazon, you will learn alot.
