Aussie looking to move to California

Hi All,

I am an Aussie looking to move my family (wife and 2 kids) to California in the next 3 months. Wondering if someone out there could give me a heads up on any significant issues we may have with Schooling, finding a home to rent, major differences in food availability etc.

Hello Jacab,
What part of California are you looking at? We recently had some Australian friends consider moving to the San Fran area. They are originally from Sydney and were amazed at how similar the cities were. Housing purchase prices are very high but rents can be reasonable.

The food selection is great, though there are some terminology differences.

Hey Jacab,
Thanks for the response. If I accept the job I will be working in the Long Beach area. My wife is concerned that the US has too much of a junk food mentality and that fresh veggies may be hard to come by. Would appreciate if you can confirm with you friends if this is fallacy or fact.

We both have some concerns about the US Education system comparing it to the Austrlaian system. Any knowledge you can share here?
