History
The Lake Palace Hotel was built in 1743 – 1746 and was placed so that it faced east so the people living there could pray to Surya as soon as the sun came up. The Surya is the Hindu Sun God. It was built as a summer palace for the royalty of Udaipur and after that the hotel was used as a summer retreat for the descendants of Jagat Singh. Made from white marble, the hotel was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh II in 1746.
